Beach House

We clad it in wood shingles with white trim to give it a New England coastal feel.

The Main House in this coastal project was once a small cottage the size of the adjacent Guest Cottage which had been added years later. The main residence had gone through many additions and alterations over time. It was in disrepair and functionally did not work for the new owners. We returned the home to its original cottage style and added a front porch and cottage roofline to give it scale. We selected wood shingles with white trim to give it an authentic New England coastal feel. Inside we added a light-filled stair hall with a Dutch door, that allows coastal breezes to flow freely through the home. We opened up the kitchen with a vaulted ceiling. A wall of glass with a bench seat in the dining area allows the family to take in the view while cooking and eating. The Kitchen has a wood-fired pizza oven and a fireplace with a hearth made from beach stones. Throughout, the ceilings were designed to imitate exposed cottage structures, painted white for a beachy feel. Windows let the sunlight stream into the house throughout the day. A screened porch was added to the adjacent open deck in the back to further enjoy the water views on a relaxing summer afternoon. The Master Suite above has its own private terrace overlooking the harbor.

The Guest Cottage was renovated in a beach bungalow style, complete with 50’s style appliances and cabinets. French doors to a private deck afford amazing water and beach views.
